Urbanwalls Decals {a $50 giveaway!}

>> Monday, March 5, 2012

The past three years we Sabbes have been renters. Mega Renters. How do you become a mega renter? You move to 3 new apartments in 3 years. Every apartment has been different and commanded different levels of creativity to make each feel like home. In our first apartment we created a chevron wall behind our sofa, which I loved. But the thing about contact paper is you can only use it on plaster walls which we no longer have. So I was really excited to see some of the options Urbanwalls offers for drywall.

 Looks like wallpaper right!?

And this week Urbanwalls  is offering a $50 gift card to one sabbespot reader. To enter you can like them on facebook. OR tweet OR pin your favorite design from their shop and then leave a comment here.

A winner will be selected at random Friday, March 8th. Good luck!

UPDATE: The winner is Kim Heuer!

Giving + Sewing = Awesome {Memphis, listen up}

>> Monday, December 19, 2011

A couple of weeks ago my sweet friend Annelise introduced me to a program called Donors Choice and gave me the opportunity to select an organization to support with a $25 gift card. I did a little looking around and it did not take me long to decide on the Sew-ing Eagles. HELLO! I wish I would have known about this class when I was still in Memphis!! Here is what the teacher, Ms. Mott, writes:

My Students: Help! The "Sewing" Eagles need supplies! With limited school and household funds in our community this donation will truly be appreciated and allow us to learn basic sewing skills!
My 7th and 8th grade Teen Living students are a little rough around the edges but, they are eager to learn and they are hard workers. Most of my students come from single parent homes. Our school is not only a source of knowledge, but an outlet of exposure and opportunity. Our sewing projects will be evidence of their time in my class and most important, a sign of an accomplishment of a skill they learned and can take with them in the future.
My Project: Teen Living is not only a "home economics class, it is a class about life. What I teach in Teen Living helps students with personal life events but academic as well. By obtaining these sewing supplies my students will be able to complete their sewing unit. In sewing we learn about textiles, how to take care of our clothing, and clothing construction. Actually having the opportunity to sew helps to bring the lesson to life and have evidence of what we learned. The students can say "I did this in Teen Living". This lesson also hits on following instructions, reading, and measuring, skills students have to use daily. Having the opportunity to end this unit with the sewing project helps them in my class, but all classes.
Most of the students at my school did not make a proficient score on our state's standardized test. This means they aren't retaining what they need to learn. This will impact their future! The administration at my school hopes to use classes such as Teen Living to aid in test score gains through integrated instruction (ex. teaching fractions - measuring for a cake), exposure, and incentive. Studies show well-rounded students in well-rounded programs do better in school. Help our eagles soar.

HERE is a link to the materials list.

First of all, Ms. Mott sounds awesome, probably the Gregg Breinberg of Home Ec. Second, Memphians!, we know all of the less than great stories that come out about the public school system in the area. This is an opportunity to be a part of a good story. I was sick last week and let y'all miss the giveaway Annelise hosted for another $25 gift card to Donors Choice....SO....to make up for that, everyone who visits Donors Choice and leaves a donation for the Sew-ing Eagles will be entered in a drawing for this pillow sham, made out of one of my favorite Thomas Paul prints.

Your name will automatically appear on the website, No donation is too small!
I will pick a name from the list when the time limit expires on the project. Thanks!!

Sweet Friends + A Winner

>> Wednesday, August 10, 2011

My friend Ali emailed me today to tell me that my old living room was on the "request and invite" page for Pinterest today. I miss that old cave (no natural light + bars on front windows).

She was also the friend who pointed out to me that Apartment Therapy ran this post a couple of years ago. Don't you love sweet friends who keep their eyes peeled for your random DIYs circulating the internet. I do.

Also, the winner of the Ramsign drawing was....
Susan, who said "I agree with others - the choices are endless!! I think I would choose 32526 - long story, but this represents anniversary dates." Susan, email me to claim your prize.

I loved hearing your all's stories about what numbers you would pick!! It made the giveaway so much more fun. Thanks to all who entered and Ramsign for hosting.

One more thing! Since this is such a random post, I'm going to add to it. Go VOTE for my friend Heather to be on Cakeboss! Her cakes are amazing. Watch her video. I agree, every good reality show needs a southern bell. Heather was in my sorority in college, as was this reality show winner. The ole' Kappa Chapter of Phi Mu makes for some pretty good tv stars.

Carlee- 1 yard of fabric

Giveaway: Handbag Made By Yours Truly

>> Thursday, December 9, 2010

I get a lot of emails, mainly from sweet friends at home, to see if I still make bags for the etsy shop I opened once upon a time ago. Sadly, since going out on my own last June, my crafting afternoons have been few and far in between. So for this last giveaway I thought it would be fun to sit down and make a bag. I'm also teaching a class this Saturday and I thought I could use a refresher. Two birds, one stone.
This last giveaway is open to SabbeSpot subscribers only, just let me know how you subscribe in your comment below. Any reader format is fine.
Winners for all of the giveaways will be announced December 16th. Don't forget to check out the other great holiday giveaways.

Giveaway: Ornament Sets from FilzFelt

>> Tuesday, December 7, 2010

Today's giveaway is sponsored by another local Boston company, FilzFelt, which was founded by two felt-loving designers, Kelly Smith and Traci Roloff. The name FilzFelt is a combination of the German word for felt (filz) and the English (felt). I met Traci last year at an industry party and then ran into the team again at last year's ICFF show. Their products are amazing.

One of my most favorite things FilzFelt offers is their ornament sets.

Adorable right?

This giveaway is for 5 sets (2 ornaments per set), your choice!
Make sure to check out their website and Facebook page.

This giveaway is open to everyone. Leave a comment below.
A winner will be selected December 16th.

Giveaway: Yee-Haw Notecards from Juniper Berry

>> Thursday, December 2, 2010

Today's giveaway is sponsored by a very talented designer who resides in my hometown, Nashville! I purchased the Yee-Haw print from Jenni's shop last year for friend of ours who moved from Tennessee to Texas. We all loved it. This year Jenni is offering a set of Yee-Haw notecards to a SabbeSpot reader! I think this would make an awesome holiday gift. There are few better sayings in the world than yee haw.
From the designer: A 19th-century map of Texas defines the silhouette of a rearing cowboy, yelling "Yee-Haw!." This design was a suggestion of a customer from Texas, and I was happy to oblige!

Each handprinted card is one-of-a-kind, resulting in a unique array of colorful effects. Printed on cream deckle-edge 7" x 5" 100% cotton cardstock with matching envelopes. Packaged as a set of four, tied with ribbon and a hangtag.

Find Jenni on twitter and make sure to visit Juniper Berry. During the month of December, mention SabbeSpot during checkout and receive free shipping!

To enter, leave a comment below. This giveaway is open to everyone!

A Little Bit Bollywood Giveaway!

>> Tuesday, June 29, 2010

We are back from the beach and it is good to be home! Today I have another fun giveaway from the folks over at CSN. They literally have a million things to choose from, whether you are looking for anything from a vanity to a vase, but today we're giving away a pillow!

India has been making a big splash in the American mainstream over the past couple of years. We see it in music, film, fashion, and all types of design, from graphics to interiors.  I was actually in one of my favorite Indian take out places, here in Boston, a couple of months ago and spied an India Elle Decor on the counter. Everything was gorgeous! I didn't realize there were different issues for different countries.

On a side note, I am totally infatuated with all things Bollywood. My friend Sheetal can attest to that. I have already discussed with her what I plan on wearing to her wedding, and she is not even engaged. Mr. Sabbe has a handful of good guy friends from med school who will also have traditional Indian weddings one day, and I have told them all that I plan to perform some sort of pre-choreographed dance routine as a part of my wedding gift to them. Henna... fun jewelry.... and miles and miles of Indian food... can one of you please get married already!!?

Today I am featuring three Koko Company Pillows from CSN's AllModern.com,  to give you all the opportunity to work a little Bollywood into your home.

I love them all! To enter just tell me which of the three you would pick.
Also let me know if you subscribe and I will enter you twice.
I will randomly pick a name next Tuesday the 6th. Good Luck!

That's a HUGE Bag Giveaway

>> Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Ya'll remember this bag I made a few weeks ago?
Well, I have yet to carry it anywhere. And because bloggers are such givers, I want to give this bag away.
It's a good bag. You could probably carry a small child in it (but please don't)
Just leave a comment to enter. If you follow the blog, blog about the giveaway, tweet, facebook etc. Just write a number on your ONE comment and I'll enter you that many times. I'll pick a winner Tuesday the 26th.

I don't tweet, but did you guys see last week's Office episode?  Kelly's comment about "Of course I'm the leak, I think I tweeted it" made me laugh out loud. That show is the best.

The winner of the $60 gift certificate is Squishe! Thanks to everyone for entering. It's fun to give stuff away from other people. It makes you feel a bit like Oprah.

On a completely unrelated note, look who I ran into at ICFF!
Not my best photo. I went to NYC without my entire makeup bag, who does that? Thank God for Sephora and the ability to put on free mascara on the run.

Eddie and Jaithan were super sweet and filled me in on some of their up coming projects. We also talked a little blogs. It was nice to meet you guys!

More on ICFF and NY to come!

A Giveaway

>> Wednesday, May 12, 2010

I never cease to be amazed by the blogging community. I raised almost $300 dollars yesterday towards the reconstruction of my mom's house thanks to my terrific, amazing blog friends. And in the spirit of giving, CSN has asked me to host a $60 gift certificate giveaway that can be used  in any of their 200 online stores. Here are a few things I would pick.

They have an amazing selection of lighting. Remember the Tolomeo lamp from the Brad Ford project I posted? They have it. Free shipping, and you can get if for $60 dollars off!

And I wish I were giving away some modern classics. But since I'm not, how about modern classics on a pillow? These are all less than $60, so you could basically pick one for free.
And I am loving this Kartell Charles Ghost Stool. Wouldn't it be cute pulled up to a makeup vanity?
And for the modern baby...Kartell Lou Lou Ghost Chair! ridiculous, but cute
To enter, leave a comment. If you "follow" the blog, let me know and I'll enter you twice.
I'll pick a winner next Wednesday, the 19th. Good Luck!
