When It Rains, It Pours

>> Tuesday, May 4, 2010

This is what Nashville looks like. I planned to fly here weeks ago to spend time with my mom for Mother's Day and yesterday she called to say that her street had been evacuated due to flooding. Our neighborhood has never flooded. It's not within the 100 year flood plain. This week... it flooded. The water reached 7 feet high in my mom's living room. You can see the water line on the walls around the room. Her car was facing forward in her driveway and now it's backwards. And the craziest, her across the street neighbor's back deck is in her front yard. I will have pictures to share at some point.
I spent the day moving furniture and tearing out carpet. Pray for everyone that has been effected by this storm. I thank God for His perfect timing in that I was able to be here to help AND that my childhood cat Callie made it. She showed back up around 8 o'clock this afternoon. Mr. Sabbe calls her Mother Time. We have had her since I was in the 7th grade.

And, as you may suspect, I may be a bit light on the blogging this week. But I'll be back next week! How cute was my guest blogger? The cutest. Maybe I can convince him to entertain you for another week. We'll see.

My family is from the Nashville area. I know they're safe, but I've been so worried about them. I can't believe how bad the flooding has been! I'm glad your family is safe. I hope the clean up goes smoothly for them. Keep us posted!

That just breaks my heart. Nashville is such a wonderful place, and I hate that it's having to endure this devastation. But I'm so happy your family and cat are safe.

Stephanie, I am very sorry to hear about this disaster. I can't believe the flood was that bad! I talked to your mother yesterday; She was very busy and we couldn't talk long but I wanted to let you all know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck with the clean-up and hopefully you can salvage most of the sentimental items. Keep me posted as to the progress. Love you!

My mom and dad and sister and her family are fine, but my sister's car was in the opryland parking lot and it is washed away. It is so sad, I am glad you are able to be with your mom to help her through this difficult time.

Stephanie- So glad that your mom and cat are okay--- but hate to hear about her house. If I wasn't about to go into labor--- I would love to drive up and help y'all. I mean that.

I am so sorry to hear that this affected your mom... It is just horrible... My parents live in south middle TN and it got bad there too... Not as bad as your mother's though... Keeping you and your family in our prayers and thoughts...

oh that's just PEACHY! May 9, 2010 at 3:19 PM

I live in the Nashville area, and by the grace of God, my house was spared with only small damage. My neighbors were not so lucky.

If you need help @ your mom's house, I'd be happy to come lend my two hands. Really enjoy your blog...

I'm so sorry your mom's house was affected by this horrible flood. Our house is up a steep hill and fared fine, but the neighborhood across the street had serious damage. This disaster has been so surreal. At least your mom and cat were able to escape.

Please let me know if I can help in any way. I did some manual labor in Bellevue last Wednesday and since then have mainly been providing a meal where needed or other assistance. Prayers and best wishes to you and your mom. Take care!
