Forever

>> Monday, January 23, 2012

If we decided to built a house today I would probably go nuts. Too many decisions! I try to peer pressure my clients into being decisive people (they pay me to be peer pressured:) But when I think about living somewhere for a long time...or forever...I freak out. Keep in mind, we have moved 4 times in 3 years. But I would struggle with "what will I like forever??" So I have started to make a little mental list of things I know I will like forever, for when forever comes. At the top of that list: wall planking, chesterfield sofa, wingback chairs.

In the ever changing world of blogs and pinterest, what do you think you will love forever?

"Forever" is a really long time and I like the idea of knowing that what I love today will be loved forever.
I guess I would have to say my kids and art. Well of course my dear husband too.
As far as interiors, lots of white, black and a few great works of art mixed in a mod setting - the house could be anywhere, on a cliff, in the mountains, by the sea.
I think setting is key.

I just posted this the other day. I love hardwood floor... my "forever" hardwood floor would be herringbone.
And this (http://www.jetsongreen.com/2011/09/arctic-plank-upcycled-pallet-wood-floor.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+jetson_green+%28Jetson+Green%29) is pretty neat.

I'm struggling with this right now as I try to buy a dining room table. I don't want to buy something cheap or something that will scratch really easily, or something that is too formal. But with the "rustic" trend right now, a lot of the table tops are so distressed, that it's a little too much. You may also relate to this - but I want an extending table so that when we move again, I'll have lots of options on the size of the table. I feel like I'm putting too much pressure on myself to find something perfect -- but then again, I don't want to buy something I don't love. Until I pull the trigger, I'll keep pinning and dreaming.

The house I live in now is my "forever" house. In 2008 we bought an 1840's brick two family in Charlestown, took it down to three exterior brick walls and renovated it into a bright and open (modern from the back and nearly original in the front) home. My family and I love it, now, if we could just finish the punch list!:)

Great post and great question! I change my mind way too much!

Forever...yes, that's a long time, but I know I will never change my mind when it comes to beautiful wood floors and a house with NO overhead lighting. Your forevers could be on my list too...I love wall planking and am looking for a chesterfield sofa in black leather with nail head trim.

I know one item for sure on my "Forever" list would be a fireplace. One in the living room and one in the master bedroom. Fun idea!

Forever really is a long time. I am with you, I get easily inspired and love change. If I had to select a few "forever" items that I know I wouldn't need to change they would be; reclaimed wood floors (preferably in a herringbone pattern), industrial/ masculine touches. It's sad I can't narrow it down to be more specific but even being able to say a style is pretty committed for me :)

The image you posted is one of my favorites!
