I finally made the dress! I have made little dresses before, but never with this new pattern. This is actually my trial run on cheap fabric. My fun Amy Butler fabric has not arrived yet, so I thought it would be a good idea to practice on some less fun fabric. Although I think the frogs turned out very cute. I do wish I had a loaner kid to try it on and make sure it hangs right and isn't itchy or anything where I surged it. I was a picky clothes kid, so I try to relate to picky clothes kids when sewing.

Maybe I'll bring one to the church nursery on Sunday. Although I might be permanently banned from helping in the nursery if someone catches me trying random clothes on their kids.

I want to alter the pattern a bit so that the dress can be reversible. But as far as the Cooper Young Festival goes, I'm one dress down, a whole lot more to go. I'll probably hate these things after this. My poor (future) girls will have to wear store bought clothes...which I'm sure they'll love way more.

Baby Shoes Take Two

I made another pair of cloth baby shoes. They are just so cute to look at. It took me two days to get back to make the second one. I probably could have finished both in one day, but I was too busy showing Bryan how cute the first one was. I bought some material today for the dresses I am making. Stay tuned!

MySpace

They blocked it! My work has blocked MySpace. I think what they really need to block is the fantasy baseball, basketball, football, and everything else league that all the guys that sit around me are always checking...not MySpace.

I never abused it, only checked it at lunch, occasionally. And now it's no more! I'm so sad, although I think I'll be much less of a MySpace looser/stalker. I'm committing myself to full time blogger stalking. It's the beginning of a new era.

I do have a home computer, but to check MySpace at home is extra looserish in my opinion. I want to be as far away from a computer as possible. Give me my crafts and my cat and my husband of course.

I love this

I was looking through magazines today at the bookstore while my sweet husband did the grocery shopping. I need not describe what a catch of a husband I have, and just so I don't appear to be a lazy-trickster of a wife, I've actually taken on a little side work helping someone with the interiors of a mountain home they are building. That is why I needed to look through the magazines. I'm getting paid for it.

Anyhow, I came across this table and I love it and I wanted to share. The designer does another one where he uses glass instead of the metal legs and it's awesome too. The table appears to float. I love it. It doesn't look like anything in my house, but when I get my deer head I'm getting this too.

I think it would be great with this classic Emeco navy chair.

Cool People

Amy Butler! I just love, love, love her stuff. I just ordered some fabric that I am super excited about. I am finally beginning my crafts for the Cooper Young Festival. I am determined to not let it sneak up on me, being my first attempt at selling crafts.

But back to Amy Butler. She's just one of those people, like Martha, who designs all these cute things that I covet. I really want to make this bag she designed the pattern for. It looks a little hard and I'm thinking if I order the pattern it might deter me from my Cooper Young goal. But it's definitely on my birthday/ Christmas/..4th of July list:) Stay tuned for the unveiling of my CY craft. I am looking for some female child models if any of you are looking to break your little one's in the business.

What exactly do you do?

Sometimes I do not like telling people what I do. It's not that I do not love what I do, I just think it's hard to explain sometimes. And then I always feel like I am insulting another sector of my industry by clarifying between what I do and what they do.

It always starts with "Oh, I am an Interior Designer" and then I try to clarify "I do mostly commercial buildings". And by mostly I mean always. But inevitable the conversation always turns to "Oh, you need to come and decorate my house, I don't have a clue". I mean if I had a dollar for every time I have heard this I would be a rich woman. And then I attempt to further clarify that I have no experience in residential design and I myself would not have a clue to go about it. And that's when I start to feel like I might be trying to make my end of the industry sound better or more skillful than the other.

So to clarify, and clear my conscious, a Residential Interior Designer's job is very hard in my opinion. They work with people on a very personal level. It's their house. You cannot get more personal than that. They work very hard to give people good design that reflects their clients taste and not their own.

But my job is very different. I work with companies like SunTrust Bank, the accounting firm Deloitte and Touche, and Harrah's. It's personal, typically what the CEO or big boss likes, but not that personal. They do not live in the spaces I design. Maybe between the hours of 8-5 they do, but it's not the place where they kiss their kids goodnight. Also in my world I can pick where to the walls go. I pick where to doors go. I design and locate the reception desk, or the bar, or the coffee kiosk. Along with that I decide what the walls are painted, how the bar is build, and where the electricity needs to be for the coffee kiosk. I am a Commercial Interior Designer.

I was recently on a job site of one of my projects and took a few pictures. This is what a space looks like when I get it. Stay tuned for what it looks like when I'm finished with it.



I love Domino magazine and all the fun designers they feature every month. So stay tuned as well for when I give residential design a shot. But for now I'm loving creating for the big wigs in the world of commercial design.

The History of Love

I loved this book. It is my second favorite I've read in a year (first favorite being The Kite Runner). It's clever. It's so clever that through half of the book I didn't know which character was narrating and actually became very annoyed. But when everything came together it made the conclusion all the better. It's was a good lesson for me to keep on reading. It's about love, relationships, and family. It also enlightened me to a great deal of Jewish culture that I was previously unaware. I loved it. If you read this book you definitely find a smile on your face and a strong desire to go and hug your grandparents.
